There are several types of shampoos on the market today. Within the industry we can classify these in to three categories of a General Shampoo, Conditioning shampoo and Cleansing Shampoo. General Shampoos can range from a daily shampoo to a shampoo with purpose like a neutralizing shampoo. Conditioning shampoos does just what it says "condition" but the type of condition can be called - Moisturizing, 2 in 1 or Deep Condition and various other names if you let marketing have their way. Cleansing shampoo are the ones getting the bad wrap today, especially the sulfate shampoo. Personally I believe these are need when it comes to some of the products we use on are hair that's very hard to remove. Cleansing shampoos have been around for a very long time and are effective at removing things like gel, silicones and grease buildup.
When should you change your shampoo?
Hold on, I'm not saying toss out your current shampo just mix it up a little.
Honestly, you should have two different shampoos. Preferably, one free sulfate and one sulfate to maximize the cleansing efficacy. But please note this is greatly based on your styling practices and the type of conditioner and / or leave in conditioners your using. Since SULFATE shampoos are taboo these days. Some pre - shampoos has now fill the gap whereas the second type of shampoo isn't needed. I also caution this method because the object of shampooing is to cleanse the hair and scalp of dirt, debris and grime. It is a know fact that continual use of any product can cause some type of deposition on the hair. Therefore rendering the hair not manageable. Most of us have experience this once or twice in our life time, if not yet count yourself fortunate. Here's where the shampoo becomes the superhero saving our hair from the perils of the styling gel or the edge control I've been laying on my hair all week long.
As mentioned before, if you tend to have a lot of gel, silicones or grease buildup after wearing your style for several weeks. You should definitely add a second shampoo or pre - shampoo to the mix things up. So now, you are straight with the best way to cleanse your hair.
How often shall I mix it up?
To be most effective, once or twice a month.
